The Sea of Galilee 7-8-13

In 1986, two brothers were walking on the shoreline of the Sea.  The water was low, it was January.  The two brothers found a very old nail in the bed of the Sea.  They were not sure how old it was but they knew it was old.  They started digging around the area to see if there were more or anything else and they came across one of the most incredible "finds' in all of modern day "finds".  They found the remains of a boat from the 1st century.  This boat is of the very same type that Jesus could have been in the day the storm came up suddenly on the Sea and he calmed the waters and walked on the waters.  We were fortunate to be able to get very close to the boat and there were people in there at the time studying the boat and explained to us about the boat as they worked.
After seeing the boat from Jesus' time, we ourselves took a ride out on the Sea of Galilee.  The name of our boat was The King David!  It was made in the same shape as the boats from Jesus' time but much larger and could hold many people.  Again, we lucked out and there were not all that many people on our boat.  There was one Muslim family that Kathleen and I shared a bench.  It was hot, the mother was in head to toe clothing and had six children to attend to.  The dad was there as well but had on a nice short sleeve shirt.  Their children were very well behaved and just beautiful.  The mom was smart.  She did not speak English but she knew how to keep her kids happy, snacks!  Who doesn't enjoy a snack and a cold drink halfway through a boat ride?  Much to our surprise, when the dad got out the large bottle of some kind or orange juice, he poured a glass for each member of his family and then had one of his youngest sons bring Kathleen and me a glass as well.  Very nice!  We thanked them in the universal sign language of "cheers" and it was bottoms up for Kathleen and me.  It was sweet relief from the hot breeze blowing in our faces!  Once we downed our juice, the same little guy came back over to us and collected our plastic cups and took them to the trash.  Six kids, hot, windy...no crying or complaining they just enjoyed it.  The ride only lasted about 40 minutes.  We were able to see all the places we had been earlier in the day from the water.  It was a great day and a great way to end the day.
