Caesarea, Israel 7-1-13

Ruins, Ruins, Ruins.  If you enjoy ruins, rocks and the like, this is the seaside vacation spot for you.  This area was fought over for centuries because it had a deep harbor and was in the middle of the trading route.  It was amazing to see the Hippodrome, where they once held chariot races, or the Romans did.  Also, the theatre where they held plays and musical performances.  All of these were on the ocean front.
They have a multi-media center here that rivals any other.  It has individual stations where you can stand in front of a computer and there is a mesh screen in front of you.  The tabletop in front of you is like a giant touch screen.  It holds a time line and you can touch it and scroll across it and pull up a person.  I pulled up St. Paul.  St. Paul appeared in front of me, life size and was able to answer questions for me.  Of course these were prerecorded but it was really fascinating.
After we spoke with St. paul we walked the length of the Hippodrome down to the stadium.  We had to go out onto the beach at one point and it was like Shell Island.  There were shells in piles.
The Roman aquaduct ruins were really still in amazing condition and did not have much repair.  Seeing this right on the beach was an odd site.
Today, there are restaurants, bars, beach rentals and people just having big fun while running around the ruins.
