On the road, 1st stop Megiddo National Park 7-9-13

Today was a long day.  We started in Tiberias and ended up in Jerusalem.  We had many stops along the way and I will do my best to try to explain all we saw and did.
First stop was Megiddo.  You will know this area as Armageddon.  When you see it you can imagine that this valley would be and has been a huge battle field.  If this is where the end of the world happens, you would want to watch the battle from the viewpoint we had today!
The book of Revelation 16:16, John's vision of the forces of good and evil, to be followed by God's reign on earth.
Today, there are ruins on top of this mountain.  There are two opinions of what we saw. One is that King Solomon built a large city here and it had two palaces another is that it was built by a king of the Israelite dynasty of Om

ri in the 9th century BCE.  Regardless of who gets credit, the whole idea that something like this could have been built all those years ago is nothing short of amazing.  The walls, altars, stables, but the water system...it was impressive.  They had city walls and it was not safe to go outside the walls.  So, what do you do if the water source is outside the walls?  Well, you dig a very aggressive sneaky tunnel system to get to access the water from underground!  It wasn't just a few feet down it was a gigantic hole about 40 yards down the shaft and then a walkway for the people to walk to the water access.  Amazing.  Steep, scary and damp.  You might notice that Kathleen and I did not choose the best footwear for this climbing endeavor.  Tomorrow we will make a better choice.  Pulling stones, sand and shells out of your shoes in the heat is a bit bothersome and slows the whole group down!  Pomegranate trees are just beside the ruins.
