When Jesus was crucified and laid in the tomb, the bible tells us they sealed his tomb with a stone. Today, we saw a tomb that was most likely for a whole family. The stone that rolled away in Jesus' time was probably just like this one minus the steel band around the stone. It would take two strong men to roll the stone away from the entrance to this tomb, so said our guide. Nicky and Charles did not try it! When a religious Jew dies they try to bury the person the same day they died. They do not embalm the body. They undress the body, wash the body, wrap the body in a white cloth and bury the person in the ground without a casket. Jesus being a Jew, it made sense that He was wrapped and laid in the tomb right after he was taken from the cross. Just the thought of rolling the stone away made Charles so tired he needed a nap before we drove 30 miles to Mt. Carmel!
