Cana, Sunday July 7th, 2013

We drove to Cana to see the place where Mary and Joseph took Jesus to a wedding.  This is the place where Jesus performed the miracle of changing the jugs of water into wine when the wedding party ran out of wine.  Remember, there was no church here, there may have been a Jewish temple but there are no ruins from it.  It was explained to Helen, mother of Constantine that this was the place where the miracle took place.  Helen traveled to Israel in about the year 300 BC and learned all she could about Christianity and basically interviewed people to hear stories about Jesus that had been told or written some 300 years prior and handed down just like we do today.
We visited the Catholic church which is built on the site that Helen was told was where the miracle took place.  We were in luck.  There was a First Holy Communion taking place and the church was standing room only with people spilling out the door.  There was a nun sitting at the entrance of the church making sure that people outside were in proper clothing and kept the small children that were running around the courtyard to some level of quiet.
