May 11, 2009 Charles' REAL Birthday surprise

It took two days to totally make sure he would not know there was a surprise and it worked! We all loved him not knowing a thing and walking into his birthday dinner with about 50 guests and still wasn't sure what was going on. A meal called Sweet Home Alabama was served. Staters were chicken wings with ranch, gumbo with okra and rice of course, a wedge of "head lettuce" with tomatoes and dressing drizzled, the sorbet to cleanse the palate was with Jack Daniels, entres were ribs or freid catfish. Side orers were corb on the cob (hard to eat with no teeth), mashed potatoes, baked beans, green beans with bacon, and fried okra! Dessert was Alabama pound cake with vanilla ice cream or peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream. A wonderful "comfort food" meal with friends. His invitaion asked if you bring a gift, make it a tacky one! We left dinner and went to an upstairs lounge for "the openingof the gifts". Very funny things..cats (4 of them), chinese blessings, hats, pieces of fruit, flashlights, homemade items of cards, wine bags,...many fun things!! It was a great night. Charles was surprised and we all had fun. Happy Birthday to Charles!
