Sunset, magician and fishing! 3-23-07

We all went out on the bow of the ship and the band was set up and played as the sun went down. A wonderful way to end the day. All the singers in the cast sang different songs and we had a great time. No green flash. It seems for those of you who are like me and never heard of a green flash before, that some people say they exist. From what I can gather, a green flash is a split second of green flash that happens only when the sunset has a perfect horizon, no cloudiness and flat. The captain must have seen them before as he was sure the setting was perfect. Clouds rolled in and we had a beautiful sunset but no green flash. I hope we will try again!! Kathleen and Grant found a place to sit and try to see the green flash. They are sitting on extra propellors! I was happy to find out we have them! The gal behind them is Meghan. She is a dancer in the cast.
Nicholas and I both wore our newly purchased Batik clothing from Penang for the sunset.

Joe was singing for us all from the deck below!

The band and singers were one deck below.
Nicholas invited his favorite dancers to have dinner with us, Meghan and Sherri. Nicholas' best buddy, Chuck got picked to go on stage with the magican. He looked great in his Moroccan wear! Nobody was cut in half but he was a really good magician and we had fun.At about 8:00a.m. this morning, the captain announced that he had come across several fishing boats and was going to stop so our chef could hope off the ship and go by dingy out to the boats and buy the fish these people had just caught! When we stopped, many fish were in the area and that brought up schools of dolphin. These pictures don't tell the whole story but it was an amazing sight to see hundreds of dolphin jumping up and out of the water all at the same time like it was planned! Our chef was successful in buying the fish, so I am sure it will be on the menu tonight!!

The fishing poles these people were using were nothing short of just plain old tree limbs with fishing line on them!! These people must live in Sri Lanka, as that was the closest land we were to when we came upon them! The fishermen were happy and jumping up and down waving. I guess they were happy to make a sale before they hauled their fish home! Look at the handmade baskets they put their "catch" in! The small orange boat is from our ship and our chef is on the front, Tobias. It was a special morning for us all to get to see this once in a lifetime sight. If we see any more ocen life I hope we have our cameras in our pockets!!
