Touring Barbados

We were in port at Barbados by noon yestrday. We decided to hire a driver and let him take us around the countryside and to see some of the sites. We went to a sugarcane plantion and Neill (the driver) got out and cut down two pieces of cane and let us all taste it. The kids liked it. You bite down on it and suck the sweet syrup out. The island is 21 miles long by 14 miles wide. 166 square miles. Not too big. The population is about 250,000 people. Bridgetown is the capital city. That is where we started the tour. They have a Prime Minister and is a Democracy, still part of the British Common Wealth. They make sugar and rum from the sugarcane. Their famous national dish to eat is cucu and flying fish! The cucu is made from meal and okra. Not the greatest!! We went to a local restaurant and tried it. We went shopping in town and then went back to the ship. We finally got all of our luggage!!
